Yes, the amazement will accompany you in visiting the 19 places chosen to unveil the artistic and architectural beauties of Trapani.

From September 14th to 30th, get ready to admire forgotten places and hidden places that will immerse you in the history of the city, with guided tours, walks and tastings.

The project of LeVie dei Tesori  ( The routes of treasures)  was born in Palermo, twelve years ago, to tell the many treasures of the Sicilian capital, but since last year it has begun to involve other cities of the island in the project. With the new edition, in Catania, Messina, Caltanissetta, Siracusa and Agrigento are added: Trapani, Ragusa, Modica and Scicli, and of course Palermo.

The Festival aims to transform each city into a widespread museum, to visit and live with others, by purchasing a simple coupon online or directly at the entrance to the chosen places.

 

In Trapani you can visit as many as 13 churches, but also towers, palaces, libraries and more ... 19 sites in total to discover its rich and fascinating past.

 

1 ATRIO OF PALAZZO CIAMBRA, THE GIUDECCA

    Via Giudecca, 45 - VE, SA, DO h 10/14

In the ancient Jewish ghetto is the Giudecca, a building of the '300 that preserves inside an atrium with a walkway of Arabian style.

 

2 FARDELLIAN LIBRARY

   Largo San Giacomo, 18 - SA hours 16/20 DO hours 9.30 / 13.30

More than 170 thousand volumes are kept in this library, housed since 1830 in the fourteenth-century church of San Giacomo Maggiore. Among the numerous collections are the Piranesi engravings.

 

3 CHAPEL OF THE MORTIFICATION

In the building complex of San Domenico there is a small pearl, a chapel dedicated to the Holy Crucifix embellished with cherubs, flowers, fruits and shells.

 

4 CATHEDRAL OF SAN LORENZO

In the heart of the city is the Cathedral, the bishop's seat and custodian of the famous Crucifixion of the famous Van Dyck.

 

5 CHURCH OF THE COLLEGE OF JESUITS

Marmi mischi and a riot of white stuccos by Sanseverino, a student of the Serpotta, decorate the wonderful church of the Collegio, adjacent to the Jesuit convent.

 

6 CHURCH OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

Do not be fooled by the simplicity of its facade that hides a beautiful interior decorated with pillars, capitals, stucco, leaves and flowers ... a real surprise.

 

7 CHURCH OF HOLY SOULS OF PURGATORY

   Via Francesco D'Assisi, 33 VE, SA, DO h 10/12 and h 16/18

Right in this church, with its beautiful Baroque façade, the twenty sacred groups of the Mysteries are kept. Naturally, the evocative Good Friday procession leaves here.

 

8 CHURCH OF SAN GIUSEPPE (O DEL CARMINELLO)

   Via Garibaldi - VE-SA-DO h 10/18

A small jewel of the Baroque that takes the name of Carminello to stand out from the nearby Church of Carmine.

 

9 CHURCH OF SAN PIETRO

   Largo San Pietro VE  h 10/13 and 15/18 - SA h 10/13 and 15/17 - DO h 16/18

 Built on a pagan temple, the church of San Pietro houses one of the most famous and complex organs of Francesco La Grassa.

 

10 CHURCH OF SAN MARIA DEL SOCCORSO

     Via Badia Nuova, 7 VE, SA,  h 10/18

It is one of the first churches of Trapani, of Greek rite, built by Belisario in 536 and rebuilt in 1461. The adjoining monastery was headed by the Dominican nuns.

 

11 CHURCH OF ST. DOMENICO AND CHAPEL OF CRUSADERS

The façade still has a beautiful fourteenth-century rose window, while inside there is a Crucifix which is attributed to several miracles and the Chapel of the Crusaders with frescoes from 1300-1400.

 

12 CHURCH OF S. MARIA DELL'ITRIA (O SANTA RITA)

13 CHURCH AND CRYPT OF SAN NICOLA

Among the oldest churches in the city is also this one dedicated to San Nicola di Bari; inside a marble group of A. Gagini.

 

14 LA SALERNIANA, MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART

Since 2015 the building that presents at its entrance two gigantic Telamoni houses a Museum of modern and contemporary art, the Salerniana.

 

15 MUSEO SAN ROCCO

16 ADRAGNA PALACE

Eclectic and classic style for one of the first civil buildings desired by the city's expansion plan starting in 1869.

 

17 PALAZZO RICCIO DI SAN GIOACCHINO

18 TOWER OF THE COLOMBAIA

Many legends surround the castle and its tower, sicutely the oldest building in the city. 19 LIGNY TOWER
