Every year, on July 13, in the waters in front of the city takes place the Historic Reenactment of the English ships during the fight with the Spanish in 1718. The Spaniards had attributed the miracle to the Virgin Mary and the event is still celebrated with a spectacular show of fireworks over the sea.
It was an emporium for the nearby Segesta and later it became an important port for the Phoenicians and later for the Romans.
The original structure of the castle dates back to the ninth century and it was built by the Arabs. Now this castle is a very interesting Museum .
Castellammare del Golfo has got a lot of interesting churches belonging to every historical era.
Madonna della Scala, a white building carved into the rock, near the port and Church of the Rosario, near the castle are two of the most ancient churches in the city.
